A day in the life of a DI softball player is often very hectic and controlled by two factors: class and practice. Allie Skaggs, second base player for the University of Arizona spends most of her days around a tight schedule: wake up, eat, class, practice, homework, sleep, repeat. I talked with Allie about her day to day life as a college athlete for one of the top softball programs in the country.

Early Morning Workout
Allie wakes up pretty early to get a morning workout in either the Lowell Stevens Football Facility or the Universities recreation center.
Breakfast with Teammates
After her early morning workout, Allie heads to either the dining hall, one of the campus numerous eating locations, or off campus for breakfast. This is a time for her to eat and bond with her teammates before the day starts.
Class
Allie is majoring in Broadcast Journalism, so she likely spends her class time in general education as well as communication classes.
Relax Before Practice
This is probably an athlete's favorite time of the day. Between classes and homework, you can relax and clear your head before getting to the field for a long practice.

Practice
Allie then heads to Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium, the beautiful on-campus stadium that can seat almost 3,000 in attendance. Here, she may do a number of drills and training activities. This may include conditioning, drill stations, as well as infield/outfield work. As a second basewoman, Allie works a lot on scoops and building her softball IQ in game situations.
Dinner & Homework
After practice, Allie grabs dinner with a few teammates after that and then heads home to do homework with her roommates before going to bed.
Allie had this to say on the repetitiveness of her schedule: “The days can be repetitive but it is nice to be on a set schedule for sure. I try to finish most of my work early in the week so I can take more time to myself on the weekends.”
