On February 19th 2022, a single throw set three records.
That was the day Tara Simpson-Sullivan broke the Conference USA Indoor Championship meet, the Rice University, and her own personal record in the weight throw. These accolades add to an already packed list of accomplishments. The third-year Rice University student-athlete placed first in the 2021 British Championships hammer throw, fourth in the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championship hammer throw, and has won Conference USA titles in both the weight and hammer throw.
Matching her dominance in track & field, Simpson-Sullivan has also flourished in the classroom. In February 2022, she was named a Rice Honor Athlete, an award for high achieving 3rd, 4th and 5th year student athletes. In each of her two previous seasons, Simpson-Sullivan made the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team and the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
This year, Simpson-Sullivan will compete in the Conference USA Outdoor Championship where she will likely rack up more hardware. However, her sights are set on larger international goals. Simpson-Sullivan has the potential to be selected for the World's, the Commonwealth, and the European Championships. Ultimately, Simpson-Sullivan hopes to compete for Great Britain in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
