“The thing to do is move forward. Don't let these disappointments hinder you; let them help you grow.”

Missy Franklin is a former professional swimmer for the United States. She is a 6x Olympic medalist and once held the world record in the 200-meter backstroke and the short and long course 4×100-meter relay.

Franklin won all but one of her medals at the 2012 Olympic Games, at the age of 17. She won gold in the 100 and 200-meter backstroke, the 4×200-meter freestyle, and the 4×100-meter medley. She also won bronze in the 4×100-meter freestyle.

In college, Missy Franklin competed for the University of California, Berkeley. At Cal, Franklin was a 2x team MVP, Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, 2015 NCAA Swimmer of the Year, Pac-12 Swimmer of the Year, and the Honda Award winner. At the 2015 NCAA Championships, Franklin won the 200 IM, 200 back, and 200 free, setting an American record. She also clinched the title in the 4×200 and 4×800-meter relay.

As an athlete, you are always going to have to face disappointments. Not every competition is going to go your way. However, the best thing you can do is to accept that and learn from your disappointments and let it fuel you. Watch film, practice your weaknesses, and watch your game improve.
