Having your head coach leave in the middle of your college career can feel like a nightmare. During the whole recruiting process, this was the person you were communicating with and who convinced you to join their program, and now they have chosen to move on. Do not panic: we're here with a few tips to help manage the situation.
1. Talk to the support staff: The university will almost certainly have a process to help the transition from one head coach to another! The support staff and assistant coaches may know the plan or at least offer advice.

2. Get to know the new head coach: Many athletes may be resistant to a coaching change, but it's essential to listen to what the new coach is planning. This fundamental change could be a blessing in disguise.
3. Talk to your teammates: Your teammates are going through the same thing as you, so being able to support each other and make sense of the situation is extremely helpful.
4. Talk to your family: Your family loves you and will always have your best interest in mind, so they are great people to talk options with.
5. Take a step back and consider your own goals: Significant changes like a new coach allow athletes to think about their future and make decisions and changes of their own. See this as an opportunity to assess your position on the team and at the school.

Taking your time and getting all perspectives before making any decision is crucial after a coaching change.
