College is hard enough when you are focusing on a full-course load–now, add a Division 1, 2, or 3, sport. Can't be easy, right? No, but it is do-able. Here are some tips for college athletes to balance out academics and sports.
Plan Ahead
First thing first, your job is to balance your time as a college athlete. Make use of organizational skills and invest in a planner to time out your day. This will make it that much easier to have a daily routine.

Communicate!
Anyone juggling practice and class, knows they are going to be put up to the clock. Self-advocate, talk to your teachers when you arrive late, or miss class. This is definitely key.
Manage Your Expectations
Don't put all your eggs in one basket. We all have that dream or aspiration of being the star player, dazzling the crowd. Yet, under five percent of college athletes go pro in their respective sport after graduation. If you think you can be in that five percent, then go for it? If not, invest in that backup-plan. As a student, you'll have all sorts of opportunities to take classes you love. Make sure to take advantage of those and really find the niche you love.
