The 2022-23 NCAA hockey season recently ended and not only was a National Champion awarded, but the yearly individual awards were given out as well. Enter: Sophie Jaques from Ohio State University.
Jaques is a graduate student defenseman from Toronto who won a national championship during her last year of eligibility. After the end of last season, Jaques was named 2022 WCHA Defender of the year, 2022 WCHA Outstanding Student-Athlete, 2022 Patty Kazmaier Award Top 3 Finalist, 2022 USCHO Player of the Year, along with being named a First Team All-American.

At the end of regular season Jaques was named both the WCHA Player of the Year and the WCHA Defender of the year. The fifth year ended the season with 48 points in 40 games. This includes 24 goals and a 1.23 points per game. She has led all NCAA defenseman in points, powerplay goals, and points per game. Along with these conference awards, Jaques was also named a first-team All American and USCHO Player of the Year.
To top all of the year end awards that Jaques won, she was awarded the highest honor that an NCAA women's hockey player can be awarded: the 2023 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. This award is given every year to the top NCAA Division I women's ice hockey player and to cap off an incredible season, Jaques became the first-ever Buckeye and only the second defenseman to ever win this award.
It was also recently announced that Sophie Jaques was awarded Ohio States 2022-23 women's Big Ten Medal of Honor.
