Nick Dunlap is a sophomore golfer at the University of Alabama from Huntsville, Alabama. This fall, Dunlap finished the season as the Crimson Tide's top golfer and recently won the PGA TOUR American Express Tournament.
Dunlap has been named a PING second-team All-American, PING Southeast All-District, first-team All-SEC, and SEC All-Freshman. He also has two career tournament victories under his belt.
Recently, Nick Dunlap competed in the American Express Tournament at the PGA West Course and won. He had a final score of -29 and is the youngest amateur to win on the PGA Tour since 1991.
Dunlap beat out PGA veterans to win this tournament and earned the $1.5 million prize. However, he wasn't able to accept the prize money.
To preserve his NCAA amateur eligibility status, Dunlap wasn't able to take any of the money that he won. Technically, Dunlap has over two years of eligibility left. However, on Thursday, he announced that he would be joining the PGA Tour and going pro.
Nick Dunlap said at a news conference at Alabama, “It was the easiest, hardest decision that I've ever had to make. I was very fortunate that everyone had the same opinion about it and my teammates were awesome and very supportive.”
Dunlap has already qualified to play in the U.S. Open, The Masters, and the PGA Championship.
