The process comes with a lot of questions, and a big topic of interest is . Here, a former college athlete breaks down two big questions surrounding them so you can be prepared. 

Q: What is included in an overnight visit?                                                                                              

A: All or a portion of the costs can be paid for by the host school. The school can provide three meals a day, lodging, and $30 a day for entertainment for the athlete and their guardian. They may provide three tickets to a home event, and all activities must be within a 30-mile radius of the school. The school may cover the cost of travel, such as flights, trains, etc. for the athlete to and from campus, but can only pay for the travel cost of the guardian if they are traveling in the same car as the athlete. The school cannot pay for flights, trains, or buses for the guardian. The host institution cannot provide a vehicle for the family during the visit, cash cannot be given to the athlete directly, and the student-athlete cannot receive school gear for free.

Q: How many overnight visits can I take and how long can they last?  

A: An official visit cannot be longer than 48 hours and does not have to be the full 48 hours. A prospective student-athlete can take a maximum of five official visits at the DI level, but there is no limit at the other division levels.
