Lousiana State University had an incredible year in athletics this 2022-23 academic year. Women's basketball won March Madness and baseball won the College World Series! This might sound impressive… because it is. LSU is the first Division I school to ever win an NCAA championship in both basketball and baseball in the same year. With such amazing performances this year, LSU must be treating its athletes like royalty. As a top college in the SEC, obviously, their facilities are going to be nice. But, how nice does nice really mean? Here is a look at LSU's incredible athletic facilities:
1. Basketball
The Pete Maravich Assembly Center is the main basketball arena and can seat 13,215 people. This stadium is also the home arena for men's basketball, gymnastics, and volleyball. Women's basketball has a home record win average of .854, proving how hard it is to beat LSU in this arena. After LSU's 2023 championship win, LSU has been approved to make renovations to the gym. These renovations will include updated women's basketball locker rooms, player and coach lounges, a new film room, and a new hallway and entryway into the arena. These renovations are expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
2. Baseball
Alex Box Stadium and Skip Bertman Field seat 10,326 people and were built in 2009. The stadium has two video boards and premium suit boxes for ideal viewing. LSU now has 7 national championship titles. They have a 10,000-square-foot locker room that leads right out into their dugout, state-of-the-art batting cages and a pitching lab, a baseball hall-of-fame, a player's lounge, multiple fueling stations, and a separate weight room for baseball.
3. Beach Volleyball
The LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium is one of the newest stadiums on campus, built in 2019. This stadium has six competition courts, LED lights, a customized locker room, a training room, a team lounge, and a 450-seating capacity.
4. Football
Tiger Stadium seats 102,321 people. The nickname “Death Valley” is not a random name; this stadium is incredibly difficult to play in if you are not LSU. LSU has some of the best football facilities in the country. The center was built in 2005 but had a $28 million renovation. The facilities include a trophy room, a walk-through room, a position room for film, a massive team meeting room, uniform displays, an incredible locker room, a stocked equipment room, a full indoor field, a private weight room, and a fueling station, to name a few.
Honorable Mentions
5. Gymnastics
The LSU gymnastics program performs in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center with basketball and volleyball. However, the team has their own stunning practice facilities. It opened in 2016, and includes 4 beams, 3 vault runways, 4 sets of uneven bars, and an oversized floor exercise space. Within the facility, there is also a team locker room, coach locker room, a training room, a cardio room, a dance studio, a team lounge area, and a video room.
6. Soccer
The LSU Soccer Stadium is for both men's and women's teams and seats 2,197. The stadium opened in 1996, and was renovated in 2019. This renovation included a new team room, a team locker room, and a locker room for officials.
7. Tennis
The LSU tennis facilities opened in 2015. There are 12 outdoor courts and 6 indoor courts, a players' lounge, multiple locker rooms, a cardio room, a satellite training room, and coaches offices. The outdoor courts seat 1,400 people and 300 people for the indoor courts.
