Athlete Interview: Pre-Med Student and Nebraska Starting Pitcher Drew Christo

Drew Christo is a junior right-handed pitcher for the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. He is also a pre-med student…because baseball isn't tough enough. Drew aspires to be a doctor after his playing career is over. Get to know more about Drew and his unique experiences as a student-athlete!

Drew Christo's recruiting experience

Drew began to get recruited after his freshman year of high school. He fielded offers from highly esteemed academic schools such as Duke and Stanford. One of his biggest breakout tournaments was the PG Junior National Showcase after his sophomore year of high school. He ended up narrowing his top five down to Kentucky, Kansas State, Duke, Stanford, and Nebraska. He took official visits to all of these schools.

Why he chose Nebraska

Drew chose Nebraska mainly because of its proximity to home. He is from Omaha, Nebraska, and his father played football for the Cornhuskers. Drew felt good about staying home to play.

His experiences as a three sport-athlete in high school

Drew enjoyed playing football and basketball in addition to baseball. Drew played three years at the varsity level for football and won a state championship. In basketball, Drew started on the varsity squad as only a freshman. He also ended up going to the state championship for basketball. 

How he manages academics, athletics, and his social life

Drew has always been passionate about pursuing a career in the medical field. Drew took physics his freshman year and was absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of information taught. However, Drew has adapted very well to the academic rigor. Drew is now taking Physiology and Bio-Chem as a pre-med student. He also has several labs to complete each week. Drew manages his time by scheduling his classes and labs early in the week so that he doesn't miss instruction when he travels with the team on the weekends. 

What he has learned in his first two years of college

Drew's biggest takeaway has been to carry himself with confidence no matter the situation. He has learned to believe in himself, his teammates, and his coaches. He works hard and prepares so that this confidence comes naturally

What is one thing not many people know about you?

Drew is a right-handed pitcher but he swings left-handed! He enjoys golfing as well so he always surprises guys when he starts to swing his clubs left-handed.
