Matty Beniers played for the University of Michigan before being selected in the 2021 NHL draft. The left-shooting defenseman hails from Hingham, Massachusetts has taken the hockey world by storm. In his freshman year, Matty was an honorable mention for the All-Big Ten team, and was a member of the Big Ten All-Freshman team, before being appointed as an assistant captain preceding his second season with the Wolverines. Matty was selected 2nd overall in the 2021 NHL draft, directly behind fellow Michigan teammate Owen Power. He was selected by the new expansion team the Seattle Kraken, making him their first draft selection in franchise history. Most recently, Matty has continued his domination as a part of the 2022 USA Men's Olympic hockey team where the US was unfortunately knocked out in the quarterfinal round after a shootout loss to Slovakia.
