Flo is a former Baylor University Business Major and a with the Bears basketball team. He is originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo but has lived in South Africa, England, and France until he moved to the United States in 2014.

However, Thamba didn't always get as much action as his teammates–during his sophomore , he came off the bench in a little over half of the games. He only averaged about 10 minutes of playing time as he was competing with older and larger teammates. However, he turned it around his junior season, not only tripling his statistics with 109 points and 119 rebounds throughout the season, but also starting in all of the Bears 30 games including the National Championship game against .
