NCAA compliance officers handle all athletic programs for a school and ensure that all programs within the school operate by the rules and guidelines outlined in the NCAA bylaws. NCAA compliance officers are responsible for educating the coaching staff and student-athletes about the rules and regulations. 

1. Compliance Officer Responsibility

Officers use software and audits to carefully document everything to make sure an athlete is able to participate in athletics. For instance, a low GPA may disallow an athlete's participation. The responsibility falls on the compliance officer to notice the violation and make sure the athlete is aware of their situation.

2. Sanctions

Compliance officers track all recruiting, eligibility, and rule violations to ensure there are no sanctions levied against their school.

3. Communication With the NCAA

Communication with the NCAA is critical for ensuring that all member schools are in compliance with the rules. The bylaws of the NCAA are in place to ensure fair competition between all schools. 

4. Ineligibility

It is unfair for one college to allow an ineligible student to participate in an athletic event. This is why the bylaws are designed; to ensure fair competition in interscholastic competition.

5. STUDENT-athlete

The primary responsibility of an NCAA compliance officer is to ensure that students are benefiting from their education as well as athletics. This means making sure that athletics is not too demanding and that students are able to complete their academic work.

6. Recruitment

NCAA compliance officers are in charge of regulating the recruitment of athletes. The officers protect the recruited athlete from being pressured about their decision and minimize external influences. 

7. Bylaws

The NCAA bylaws are designed to promote informed decisions and balance the interests of prospective and current (or transfer) student-athletes, their educational institutions, and intercollegiate athletics as a whole. Compliance officers also make sure all rules involving unofficial and official visits are in compliance.
