Choosing a college as a high school recruit can be a tall order and it's sometimes hard to know where to begin. The best way to go about picking your dream school is to break it down into easily-digestible pieces. So the next time you're contemplating colleges, consider looking at these four things.

People

The people at a school are the  most important attribute when athletes are deciding where to commit. Without getting along with your teammates, coaches, classmates, and professors,you won't enjoy your college experience. When visiting and talking to schools during the process, make sure to talk to people on the team and feel out the dynamic and culture of the group. Having a solid foundation of people when making that transition can be all the difference.

Academics

Being a can feel like a job in and of itself sometimes so it's easy to forget that the position is only temporary for most athletes and that what you learn in college will carry you throughout the rest of your life. While choosing your future school, make sure you will be on a path to academic success wherever you go. You should be able to stay that you would attend the school even without the sport.

Coaching Style

While attending college as an athlete, one of your most important relationships is with your coach. Their style of communication and coaching is unique to them, and it heavily influences the relationship you will have with them. It is helpful during the recruiting process to have a thorough dialogue with your head coach, so the two of you are on the same page. communication can make for a hugely beneficial relationship through college. On the flip side, not getting along with your coach can ruin your college athletic experience.

Location

One of the most overlooked characteristics of schools is their actual physical location. Athletes can fall in love with a coach or athletic program, but if you are in a place you don't want to live in, then it's not worth it! Make sure when being recruited to take a physical visit on campus and visit the local area to ensure this is the place for you!
