During her latter years coaching at Brown, Sara Carver-Milne created team/athlete divisions. She was notorious for picking favorites, and she rarely developed or cared for athletes who showed potential and promise but were not the super stars. This in turn affected team scores, rankings, and overall team morale. She did not seem to have positive relations with university, and the contention affected her decisions. Sara was hesitant to advocate for better facilities--program had no pit for practice. Gymnasts' parents had to pay for out of conference travel. Many gymnasts retired early from the program unhappy, beaten down, and broken.
