How long can Colgate continue to keep this coach? Every contact she has with players negatively affects them. She destroys their love of the sport and breaks them down emotionally and physically. Colgate University's reputation is one of intellectual rigor with world class professors. The current women's lacrosse coaching situation is the antithesis of those standards. The girls on this team deserve so much better.

My daughter is currently on the team. If your daughter is committed to play for KT please have her ask the current players if they are happy playing for her. I would be shocked if you get one athlete to say they are. The culture created by this coach is toxic. She will suck your daughters love for the game out of her. Lets look at KT record...it is horrible for someone trying to build a program. In her first year (3-4) = 43%, second year (5-6) =46%, third year (6-12) =33% & fourth year (4-11) =27%. Thats 35% winning percentage over four seasons. Makes zero in game adjustments, KT formulates a game plan and stands there watching it not work. Her roster was so depleted this year from women quitting the team she had an attacker that has never played goalie suit up and get between the pipes. I don't think that has ever happened at a D1 program and KT & the Colgate AD should be embarrassed that it did. Let's not forget the BU game this year where KT did zero pregame on game day and went out to the sidelines 20 minutes before first draw and was a spectator on the sideline basically gave up on the team in a game that turns out to be the one that cost them a playoff spot. I feel sorry for the assistant coaches I am sure they are treated as poorly as the athletes. I really do not know how much longer Colgate can keep her as the HC. If my daughter did not love Colgate she would transfer out. My advice to anyone committed to play at Colgate for KT explore any option you have to go elsewhere.

Prior to Coach Taylor they were ranked in the 50’s nationally!!
Why is she still employed?
Let’s review what Coach Taylor and her assistants have done for this program!
What has their record been ? Nothing to speak of, where does this program rank not higher since she has taken over this program! How can Colgate attract top recruits with this baggage they are continuing to carry.
Have alumni supported this team?
She has broken many of these young ladies many many stories have been told. Colgate needs to start listening!
How can she still be employed? Her record is awful!!

Colgate and Kathy Taylor's record speak for itself. In the 4yrs she has been the coach, she hasn't done anything significant but "bust the morale ", where are the alumni? where are the seniors ? If you look at the Mens Lax program they have 11/12 seniors , the message is loud, yet not CLEAR on Colgates behalf. Make the positive change for the reputation of the school.

The current news articles about Coach Kathy Taylor barely scrim the surface of the abuse that has gone on unchecked at Colgate during Coach Taylor’s tenure. Many players former and present are scarred to speak up for fear of retribution and/or because they are still attempting to recover from the abuse they suffered. If you are being recruited to play at Colgate please understand that no one is safe and seriously consider talking to current and former players to understand the culture of the program. The brave women who came forward have nothing to gain and are simply hoping to protect other young women from abusive treatment at the hands of the current coaching staff.

Let me start by stating I am a parent, of a former Colgate LAX player under Coach Taylor. The freshman and sophomore classes have seen the "newly investigated " Coach Taylor, she is obviously under watch and there fore is behaving "normally" . Some parents have bashed these brave young women for coming out with their stories of abuse, if it were not for them, the underclassmen would be victims as well. Stop "hating on them " and be supportive! Women should support women, not break them and knock them down! Colgate shame on you !

Manipulates and marginalizes those players who do not match her myopic view of an athlete. Makes insensitive comments and racial microaggressions. Isolates, intimidates and shames young players, rather than supporting and developing them in a positive way. Student athletes should be protected from coaches like her.

As a recent former player of Kathy Taylor, and in light of recent news and media, I feel compelled to share my experience with the hope that I might save at least 1 future Colgate Women's Lacrosse player. As a Coach, Kathy was tough and had high expectations of her players- I had no problem with that. Since I began playing sports as a young girl, I experienced my fair share of tough coaching; running as punishment, harsh comments and criticisms, etc. The problem with Kathy Taylor lays in how she treats young women and abuses her position of power. Never have I ever had a coach care this little about me as a person. Kathy Taylor has an incredible ability manipulate every situation to align with her agenda and feels no remorse in the implications this causes. Her priority is herself and her own personal record. Kathy Taylor knew most of her players on a surface level at best (I can almost guarantee that she didn't know any of our majors- let alone our backgrounds and personal goals). I can not stress this enough- you are simply an X on her whiteboard. If you were a player who didn't align with her personal agenda, she had numerous master-mind tactics to cut you out. She would isolate players in different ways; having separate groups at practice, responding to only certain players' messages, allowing only certain players to participate in practice drills, 'forgetting' players names, pinning teammates against one another behind closed doors, and more. When players got injured, Kathy Taylor showed no empathy and would instead take the opportunity to make an example out of them by not only separating them from team activities, but also by making statements to the team such as; "this is why the rest of us need to get stronger", "this is why we need to eat healthier", "this is why you need to train harder in the off-season". Furthermore, she would make injured players feel responsible and guilty for the situation making comments like; "you're letting the team down" and "how do you think your teammates feel when they are running and see you sitting out". When players were dealing with their own mental battles, she would isolate them further making statements such as, "we don't miss you at practice", "do you even have any friends on the team?", "are you sure you really want to even play lacrosse here?". I watched MANY of my teammates experience this side of Kathy Taylor. On the other hand, as many have stated, there are two sides to every story, and in response to that I'd say that players who had a positive experience with Kathy Taylor are BEYOND LUCKY, I wish I could say the same. However, I would never wish it upon any young girl to go through what I, and many of my teammates, did.
For any aspiring, ambitious, young-players reading this... if you decide to play for Kathy Taylor- may the odds be ever in your favor.

Narcissist. Manipulative. Abusive. Liar. Deteriorates young women. She feeds off fear. This monster should never be allowed to coach or lead any group. She is a danger to all. I’ve endured playing under kathy Taylor’s “leadership” and i still to this day am seeking help to work through these mental and physical scars.

This coach should not to be confused with someone who “pushes you to reach your highest potential”. She will push you to the very end, to place you where there may never be a road to recovery. And once you break mentally or physically you become completely invisible. Accommodations is a form of weakness to Kathy Taylor, regardless of what your doctor or therapist advises. For those who support her because you never seen this side of her, you are one of the lucky ones. For those who are calling people “dramatic” or “liars” for sharing their stories of abuse, who are you to discount someone else’s experience?

As a parent, I felt it necessary to state the facts here. Coach Taylor has divided this team , she is claiming they need to choose their paths etc.. and not have a divided team YET she has a meeting with the Freshman ONLY after yesterdays game by the DUMSTER stating if you want us to stay please get it on social media!!
What desperation looks like? Stop dividing the team walk away and let them each have the experience they all deserve at Colgate! Coach Taylor please take some accountability, 20+athletes have left the program since you started , stop blaming them! Stop sending messages to the team asking for support when you have given none!!

As a father of an amazing daughter who was coached by Coach Taylor I felt the need to opine. No doubt she has knowledge of the game (she has over 25yrs coaching), this is not the issue at hand. Coach Taylor is very smart at manipulating, dividing her athletes, she pits them against eachother, perhaps that is her “old fashioned approach “, BUT that doesn’t build a team, help them each grow individually and surely doesn’t add value to the team culture. My daughter has witnessed many of the
claims against Coach Taylor, she is a leader that has taken it too far, injuries, mental health, body shaming and the list goes on. These young women are afraid of retaliation from Coach Taylor and her assistants. Colgate University needs shield and protect their athletes .
The outside investigation was supposedly not shared with the coach, but she clearly has targeted many . How can a lacrosse program continue with so much “headline risk”.
Time to cut their losses!

This is response to the USA Today "Investigation" as well as to some of your reader's feedback.
Kathy was our daughter's High School coach a few years prior to her move to SUNY Cortland. Our daughter was not a starter and fought through some injuries on those powerhouse teams. Did our daughter always love her - no - but she fully appreciated that Kathy was motivated to bring out the best in her athletes for the benefit of the TEAM. Had this USA Today Investigative Team interviewed the departing (and many) retained athletes after Syracuse University fired Greg Robinson as football coach, replacing him with Doug Marrone , there would have been a similar one-sided flavor to that article. (A feel-good coach leading an undisciplined program for his polar opposite.) The article holds Colgate out as almost a Mecca for Division I Women's Lax athletes. That is simply not the case, as the team's record over the 13 years prior to Kathy's arrival reflects. Is Division I different from Division III (SUNY Cortland} and II (LeMoyne) ? Absolutely, athletic scholarships to a highly selective, expensive University is a blessing (not without a downside for sure). Did Colgate hope to improve their program? Get more "bang for their buck" with their scholarship money? Did they seek out a coach with a record of success running disciplined programs? I'm guessing the answer to all three is yes.
Kathy had athletes from our High School, years after she left, applying to play for her at SUNY Cortland. They and their parents were well aware of her expectations and style. I was glad to see that the limited positive input did include that of an athlete who chose to transfer from SUNY Cortland to LeMoyne in order to finish her career with Kathy.
There is no excuse for body shaming and pushing injured athletes back into practice into play - if that is accurate, there must be consequences. But, encouraging an accomplished player to gain strength and weight in order to become an even better athlete? Isn't that in the best interests of the athlete and team?
The article shared some background and game stats for some of the better starters for the team. Were they asked to modify their play for the overall benefit of the team? Did they resent this? Some of your readers have also weighed in with gay-shaming? There were some gay athletes on my daughter's team - there was NONE of that.
The 6 Seniors were clear on the fact that did not like playing for Kathy. Not mentioned in the article were the circumstances of their prior coach's departure. Given the team's record, one would expect that it was not harmonious. No doubt, resentment for this may have played a part in their acceptance of the transition. To what extent did this attitude metastasize to the rest of the team?
Our daughter played for four coaches in High School and College. Would her College program have benefitted from having Kathy as coach, particularly the last two years? Would she have welcomed a return to her disciplined coaching style for improved TEAM success? Absolutely.
With attorney involvement on both sides, obtaining more balance for this article would have been difficult. To publish it primarily amplifying the grievances of the athletes who volunteered, with little effort to provide any perspective, feasting on low-hanging fruit, is BAD Journalism!

There are many ratings here on Coach Taylor and the way Colgate has handled this investigation - One of the primary reasons college athletic departments struggle to protect athletes is simple: the industry lacks a clear definition what constitutes abusive coaching, especially when it involves emotional instead of physical (although in Colgates situation it has been physcial ) an athlete wont be able to run again due to Coach Taylor. In a workplace this behavior or mental abuse won't stand a chance., nevermind physical. - Researchers have found belitting, humiliating (fat shamming ) , isolating, and rejecting (which she does very well ) are forms of ABUSE. So why protect her ? Can't fire her for Cause ? Effects of abusive relationships have a high level of control and have a wide range of damaging mental health , anxiety and depression. Colgate wake up and do the right thing for once !

I think it is important to note that just because many athletes had positive experiences with Kathy Taylor, that does not take away from the negative experiences other athletes had. Just because she pushed some to their highest potential and made others great on and off the field, does not mean she did not go too far with others.
Calling athletes a refrigerator on wheels, telling them they do not look the part of a college athlete, and shaming others for being too skinny is not helpful or motivational. It is a problem in today's world. Telling my teammate her depression was fake or making jokes about it goes beyond lacrosse and has a bit more to do with her behavior as a person in those cases.
I commend Coach Taylor for being unapologetically herself, but when it goes too far I think that others need to step in. Again, just because you had a positive experience with Coach Taylor, does not mean you have the right to negate the experience of others and call them liars. Every opinion here is valid, that is why it is a conversation. Both sides need to listen. Listen to the good experiences if you had a bad one and listen to the bad experiences if you had a good one. There is truth on both sides.
She is in fact a very knowledgeable coach who is honest with her players. As a coach, I think she sticks to her guns and she is who she is and makes no apologies for that. I also know she was brought up in a time where comments about mental health and physical appearance were more normalized and accepted. That being said, she has consistently and on multiple occasions crossed the line. Yes division I athletics is meant to be extraordinary challenging and difficult. Coach Taylor is going far beyond that in my opinion.

I played under Coach Taylor, the CNY community knows she is abusive, she treated us poorly, spoke about our weight and made us feel not worthy, one of my teammates developed an eating disorder, Le Moyne knew and was happy to have her leave. Happy these young brave ladies spoke up, on behalf of many of us. NCAA needs to get involved.

This woman has legitimate mental problems and for that she has my sympathy. But stay away from her bc she is a narcissist and a consummate liar. She should never be in charge of anyone much less a team of young women.

Kathy Taylor is the best coach I have ever had the pleasure of playing with. She pushed me to my highest potential and never gave up on me even when I wanted to give up on myself. She’s will help you find your greatest potential and that will continue on into your life after college sports.

This post is to address the comment on "growing thicker skin", with all due respect these young ladies have "thick skin", they dealt with her abuse , and they are also "advocates for themselves and others", they should be commended on their strength to come forward. Bravo!

Should never be in front of young women again. She is a sick narcissist. The report that Colgate has and won’t let any parent is telling. The independent investigator Colgate hired is questionable (he previously worked with KT son in law)
Not sure this investigation was Fair and Equitable.
Abuse is abuse- don’t misconstrue and label these young women as weak or whiney.
They were abused. Get the facts, get the documents and question why she is employed.
