Amy Griffin is starting her junior year on the field hockey team at Middlebury College. She has only played two seasons with the Panthers but has already become one of the best Division III players in the country.
Middlebury field hockey has been on an impressive run since 2015. They have won six of the last seven NCAA Championships and are currently on a run of five consecutive national championships. The Panthers have won 7 of the 19 total NCAA titles and made it to at least the championship game on 11 occasions. Middlebury competes in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Within this conference, Middlebury has been dominant. They have won nine NESCAC Championships, played in the championship game 14 times, and have produced 51 All-Americans since 1991.
Griffin has been a part of the last two NCAA Championships (2021, 2022). During her freshman year, Griffin scored four goals and had eleven assists, giving her the fifth-best on the team in points that season. She was also the NESCAC Rookie of the Year and NFHCA Second-Team All-Region. During the 2022 season, Griffith won her second NCAA Championship and was named NFHCA All-American First Team, NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, First-Team All-NESCAC, and NFHCA National Academic Team. She scored 18 goals and had 14 assists, leading the team in points. She also led the NESCAC in assists and total points. In the NCAA Championship, Griffin scored the game's only goal in overtime to win the fifth-straight NCAA title for the Panthers.
Amy Griffin is entering this 2023 field hockey season as a crucial player for the Panthers. Middlebury will be looking to add another championship to their locker and a sixth-straight National Championship. Their season begins on Tuesday, September 5th against Vermont State University-Castleton at home. Griffin and the Panthers will definitely be ones to watch this season.
