Caleb Feekin is the student assistant for the University of Nebraska Division I baseball team. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Caleb pitched for the Cornhuskers for four years. Caleb's Own Recruiting Process
As a Nebraska native, Caleb always wanted to come and play ball for the Cornhuskers. Caleb was recruited by the University of Minnesota as well, but couldn't pass up an offer to play for Nebraska.
What are your day-to-day responsibilities with the pitchers?
Caleb is a helping hand to the Nebraska pitching coach, Rob Childress. He works a lot on scouting reports for future games and practice plans.
Caleb's Transition to Coaching
Caleb had many elbow problems at the back end of his career. However, he knew he wanted to stay around the game of baseball somehow. He made the decision after the end of his senior year of college to stay with the program.
Tips For Players Looking to Get into Coaching
Caleb mentioned that being a great teammate and being coachable can go a long way in terms of your coaching career. Caleb also stated that being a “student of the game” is very important. You should always be learning and always be willing to help others.
Where Caleb Sees Himself in the Future
Caleb sees himself filling either a pitching coach role or a director of operations role. His degree is in management, so he feels confident he can do something in the operations department. Caleb wants to keep all of his options open and would be happy coaching Division I baseball or at a JUCO school. His main goal is to establish connections as he moves on throughout his career.
