CFP National Championship

Georgia: 65; TCU: 7

You could tell how badly Georgia wanted this one–from the very get-go the showed up with both aggression and poise.

In a completely one-sided game, Georgia dominated TCU from start to finish. The Bulldogs opened up with a 10-7 lead throughout much of the first quarter. However, with 8 minutes to go in the second quarter, they led 24-7. The points kept piling on, as quarterback and company couldn't be stopped. Bennet was marvelous throughout the game as he threw 25 passes, completing 18 of them for a 72 percent completion rate, while throwing for more than 300 yards, 4 passing touchdowns, and 2 rushing touchdowns. It was an all-around dominant performance for Georgia, who won the national for the second consecutive . But it wasn't just a dominant offensive performance–unfortunately for of the Horned Frogs, Georgia's robust defense was lights out, stymying , a Heisman candidate who had been lights-out all season, into throwing for just 152 passing yards. They also intercepted him twice.

Horns Down?

However, TCU should not be ashamed. Making it to the championship was a remarkable feat and going against an undefeated squad like Georgia is no ordinary task. Getting here wasn't exactly expected for TCU. They opened up the season winning 12 straight games, falling just short of a 13th, and a Big 12 Championship. Then, they shocked the world by beating Michigan in the Playoff Semifinal Game. There is a lot of positivity to take away from this team heading into next season.

Records Broken

Georgia's 65 points were the most a team has scored in the National Championship history, which began in 1992, setting the previous mark of 62 by Nebraska in 1995. Furthermore, Georgia's margin of victory, which was by 58 points, was the largest overall final deficit in College Football National Championship history. The record it broke? You guessed it. Nebraska beat Florida by 38 in the 1995 championship game.
