Brooklyn Williams is a freshman track and field athlete at Texas A&M University-Commerce. The summer before starting her first year in college, Brooklyn was inspired by other sports influencers to get involved in the world of NIL. Without much information to go off of, Brooklyn taught herself how to find NIL deals and grow her following through videos on YouTube and TikTok. Brooklyn shared some amazing tips for athletes who don't have millions of followers but still want the opportunity to profit from NIL.
Is there a good way to spot NIL scams?
Usually, if they are making you pay for something upfront, that's probably a scam.
Do you have tips for people who are trying to grow their social media so that more companies can spot them?
Make your social media marketable…Companies want someone they can market and have a good image.
How do you find balancing NIL, sports, and school on top of that? [04:33]
We have no practice or school on Sunday, so I film content on Sunday…You can always try to make time between classes, you just have to make sure you manage your time really well.
What is one of the biggest things you have learned from working with NIL companies?
I think communication and being able to write emails and market yourself. This is a really good skill for whatever job you want to go into.
Did your school provide you with any help in finding any NIL deals?
At Commerce, we use Influencer which is basically an app that you and all your teammates can use to apply for deals.
