When it comes to , finding the right school isn't always an easy path. Some will go four years at one university, while others can't help but question if they made the right decision during their freshman year. If you find yourself in the latter boat, transferring can be an option, but keep in mind that transferring is a big decision that has its pros and cons. Be sure to consider them before taking the leap to a new university.

What are the pros of transferring?

Playing time is always crucial. An athlete who is unhappy with his current situation can enter the portal and immediately be granted eligibility. Recently,players who are unhappy or maybe secondary in their respective rotations have made the switch with great success, as they can immediately transfer with little to no hindrances, and start anew. They can be more comfortable in a new setting, or perhaps closer to family, which is another benefit of transferring–if you experience a family emergency or just feel homesick, moving closer to home is an option.

What are the cons of transferring?

So your situation isn't working out at what you thought would be your dream school…What's next? For plenty of athletes, it's time to hit the portal. However, keep in mind that sometimes athletes don't find their spot because of the overcrowded portal. Furthermore, you can potentially lose your scholarship for the semester and lose a spot on the team if you do hit the portal. This is no doubt a potential issue.

The Verdict?

Athletes should keep in mind that transferring isn't always an easy choice and requires getting used to a new environment and campus. If done properly with the right resources and information, transferring schools can allow that athlete to further their career. But, they should also keep in mind both options and always weigh the pros and cons.
