1. He played Major League Baseball for 9 years!

Deion Sanders played in the for 9 years and played for a variety of teams including the Yankees, Braves, Reds, and Giants. He was drafted in the 30th round out of college by the New York Yankees. Deion slashed .263/.319/.392, 186 stolen bases, and 39 home runs. Sanders debuted in 1989 with the Yankees and finished his career in 2001 with the Reds. 

2. He had a fierce rivalry with Bo Jackson

This one comes as no surprise, but you might not have realized it. Bo Jackson was another great two-sport athlete. Bo Jackson and Deion both played Major League Baseball and professional football at the peak of their careers. When the two met on the diamond or the gridiron, you could bet there was a battle about to go down.

3. He coached high school football in Texas

For three years, Coach Prime served as the offensive coordinator for Trinity Chrisitan School in Cedar Hills, TX. During his time as the offensive coordinator, Sanders coached his son Shadeur who was playing quarterback for the school. 

4. There is a whole NCAA rule named after him

Deion Sanders had a terrible academic track record at Florida State. He almost never attended classes and flunked all of his courses. The officials and athletic directors at Florida State basically turned their heads when it came to rendering him academically ineligible. After his academic status became public, the NCAA passed a rule that you had to finish the academic semester before being able to compete in any bowl games. This became known as the “Deion Sanders” rule.

5. He spent some time as a rapper

Deion was very close with famous rapper MC Hammer. Coach Prime released an album dubbed “Prime Time.” Most of the reviews on the album were negative, but it reached No. 70 on the top R/B and Hip-Hop Albums. 

6. He had to have two toes amputated

In 2021, Deion had some medical issues concerning his left foot. As a result, he had to have two of his toes amputated. He also had some other medical concerns that summer including two blood clots which he had to have surgically removed. 

7. Sanders led Bible study for the Cowboys during the 1998 football season

Sanders is very outspoken about his faith and his relationship with Jesus Christ. During the 1998 , Sanders would announce the times for bible study over the loudspeaker.
