He is a coach that is very motivated to win and wants the best for his players. Coach Gust is very intense and as a player, I can appreciate a leader who wants the best for his team. However, his own personal opinions about certain players can be detrimental to the overall future success to the program. He plays favorites and lets those players have a much longer leash in regards to opportunities and playing time. If Gust had coaches that were able to stand up to him and voice their honest opinions, this would likely resolve itself. Instead, he has surrounded himself with former players and 'yes-men' as coaches. Coach Gust has the potential to be a great coach, but needs better people skills, to be more personable, and to treat each player according to the same standard.
