Mark is the best rowing coach in the nation. He is honest and fair, and if you put in the effort to build a relationship with him, it is beyond valuable. I have learned so much from him, and I am so grateful for the lessons he gave me about rowing and life.

Mark values the team but can be very individually focused at times on certain athletes. It can be hard to know exactly what he wants from an athlete but he is very good at motivating.

Mark is a fantastic coach who is honest and sees potential in his athletes. He is realistic while being positive, but does not have a problem calling issues to attention and assessing them with the team if need be.

He cares a lot about the sport and is very passionate. Sometimes think we tend to lose focus of our end goals and focus too much on little things and the erg performance rather than water performance

Mark cares a lot about the sport of rowing and cares a lot about the team, specifically the top performing end of the team. He can be difficult to communicate with and tends to not see who and what impacts team culture negatively.

Mark is a great coach on the erg, and decent with technical concepts. He focuses too much on top rowers on the team, crwating separation between his 'favorites' and then people on the team who feel unimportant. I'm not saying he doesn't care about rowers but just sometimes shows a lot of unequal attention when we need bottom rowers to be fast too

Mark is a great coach and knows a lot about rowing. He have created an environment where speed is rewarded and through hard work can be achieved. You must be direct with him to get the most out of him as a coach because he can get lost sometimes in the big picture. Mark loves everything about Michigan Rowing and has created a great program

I think that Mark is a great coach because he really wants us to be fast and has high standards and expectations for everyone on the team. He definitely puts a lot of importance on having a strong erg performance in order to get a chance to seat race for good boats.

Mark is an empathetic but highly determined coach who believes in hard work, dedication and the team. Sometimes there can be miscommunications and he can be a bit vague when you want specific answers, otherwise he knows his stuff.

Mark is extremely knowledgable about the sport of rowing and has a lot of connections in the sport. He is always looking for ways to make us faster and better athletes so we can compete at the highest level. He has big goals for all of us both individually and as a team and does his best to help you achieve them. Mark takes his job very seriously, but also helps to make sure that we still enjoy rowing and our college experience.

Coach Mark Rothstein cares a lot about rowing, as well as his athletes. He trains them very hard on the erg. He sets high expectations that are meant to be reached, as well as eventually surpassed. His weakness lies in his perspective: he sees rowing from a physics standpoint, and lacks understanding of the technical aspects of the sport. He is a good coach, some might even say great, but he will never create an excellent team despite having amazing athletes.
