As a recent former player of Kathy Taylor, and in light of recent news and media, I feel compelled to share my experience with the hope that I might save at least 1 future Colgate Women's Lacrosse player. As a Coach, Kathy was tough and had high expectations of her players- I had no problem with that. Since I began playing sports as a young girl, I experienced my fair share of tough coaching; running as punishment, harsh comments and criticisms, etc. The problem with Kathy Taylor lays in how she treats young women and abuses her position of power. Never have I ever had a coach care this little about me as a person. Kathy Taylor has an incredible ability manipulate every situation to align with her agenda and feels no remorse in the implications this causes. Her priority is herself and her own personal record. Kathy Taylor knew most of her players on a surface level at best (I can almost guarantee that she didn't know any of our majors- let alone our backgrounds and personal goals). I can not stress this enough- you are simply an X on her whiteboard. If you were a player who didn't align with her personal agenda, she had numerous master-mind tactics to cut you out. She would isolate players in different ways; having separate groups at practice, responding to only certain players' messages, allowing only certain players to participate in practice drills, 'forgetting' players names, pinning teammates against one another behind closed doors, and more. When players got injured, Kathy Taylor showed no empathy and would instead take the opportunity to make an example out of them by not only separating them from team activities, but also by making statements to the team such as; "this is why the rest of us need to get stronger", "this is why we need to eat healthier", "this is why you need to train harder in the off-season". Furthermore, she would make injured players feel responsible and guilty for the situation making comments like; "you're letting the team down" and "how do you think your teammates feel when they are running and see you sitting out". When players were dealing with their own mental battles, she would isolate them further making statements such as, "we don't miss you at practice", "do you even have any friends on the team?", "are you sure you really want to even play lacrosse here?". I watched MANY of my teammates experience this side of Kathy Taylor. On the other hand, as many have stated, there are two sides to every story, and in response to that I'd say that players who had a positive experience with Kathy Taylor are BEYOND LUCKY, I wish I could say the same. However, I would never wish it upon any young girl to go through what I, and many of my teammates, did. For any aspiring, ambitious, young-players reading this... if you decide to play for Kathy Taylor- may the odds be ever in your favor.

Narcissist. Manipulative. Abusive. Liar. Deteriorates young women. This monster should never be allowed to coach or lead any group. She is a danger to all. I’ve endured playing under Kathy Taylor’s “leadership” and i still to this day am seeking help to work through these mental and physical scars. This coach should not to be confused with someone who “pushes you to reach your highest potential”. She will push you to the very end, to place you where there may never be a road to recovery. And once you break mentally or physically you become completely invisible. Accommodations is a form of weakness to Kathy Taylor, regardless of what your doctor or therapist advises. For those who support her because you never seen this side of her, you are one of the lucky ones. For those who are calling people “dramatic” or “liars” for sharing their stories of abuse, who are you to discount someone else’s experience?

I think it is important to note that just because many athletes had positive experiences with Kathy Taylor, that does not take away from the negative experiences other athletes had. Just because she pushed some to their highest potential and made others great on and off the field, does not mean she did not go too far with others. Calling athletes a refrigerator on wheels, telling them they do not look the part of a college athlete, and shaming others for being too skinny is not helpful or motivational. It is a problem in today's world. Telling my teammate her depression was fake or making jokes about it goes beyond lacrosse and has a bit more to do with her behavior as a person in those cases. I commend Coach Taylor for being unapologetically herself, but when it goes too far I think that others need to step in. Again, just because you had a positive experience with Coach Taylor, does not mean you have the right to negate the experience of others and call them liars. Every opinion here is valid, that is why it is a conversation. Both sides need to listen. Listen to the good experiences if you had a bad one and listen to the bad experiences if you had a good one. There is truth on both sides. She is in fact a very knowledgeable coach who is honest with her players. As a coach, I think she sticks to her guns and she is who she is and makes no apologies for that. I also know she was brought up in a time where comments about mental health and physical appearance were more normalized and accepted. That being said, she has consistently and on multiple occasions crossed the line. Yes division I athletics is meant to be extraordinary challenging and difficult. Coach Taylor is going far beyond that in my opinion.

I played under Coach Taylor, the CNY community knows she is abusive, she treated us poorly, spoke about our weight and made us feel not worthy, one of my teammates developed an eating disorder, Le Moyne knew and was happy to have her leave. Happy these young brave ladies spoke up, on behalf of many of us. NCAA needs to get involved.

This woman has legitimate mental problems and for that she has my sympathy. But stay away from her bc she is a narcissist and a consummate liar. She should never be in charge of anyone much less a team of young women.

Kathy Taylor is the best coach I have ever had the pleasure of playing with. She pushed me to my highest potential and never gave up on me even when I wanted to give up on myself. She’s will help you find your greatest potential and that will continue on into your life after college sports.

The article that was written was by upper classmen BUT that has no relevance as far as facts KT mentally and physically abused these young women even her recruits who are the freshman and sophomore now. Yes Division 1 is not an easy feat but these women were up to the challenge, Kathy Taylor broke them. Glad you had a good experience with her tilbury the majority have not, she is a sick broken human Good luck to her she should NEVER Coach again!

Coach Kathy Taylor is an awesome coach. The article that came out was from the upperclassmen on the Colgate team who were recruited by the old coach & they didn’t have the same wants for the program that Kathy has and is trying to change; She sees so much potential in our team and genuinely cares about us and wants us to succeed. She really pushes you to be the best player you can be and doesn’t beat around the bush and is old school so what she says can come out sounding harsh, but the advice she gives is helpful, very knowledgeable, and I personally think that people just need to grow thicker skin and stop being so soft. At the end of the day, Colgate is a Division I lacrosse program and people need to realize that playing at this level isn’t for everyone, and that every coach at this level is intense and challenges their athletes, you signed up for it by committing to a DI program. Overall, she’s a great women and what is being spread about her is wrong, she just wants us to be the best players we can be.

Coach Taylor cares so deeply for all of her athletes. She is competitive and wants to win and creates a culture that is very team oriented. She wants everyone to succeed on the field, in the classroom, and as leaders. Coach Taylor is very knowledgeable about the game, and helps each athlete be the best they can be because she knows their potential. She’s motivating and dedicated, and any athlete who gets to play for her is very lucky.

Coach Taylor isn’t a good person, she came into Colgate to change the program all good intentions you would think BUT she broke these young women, played head games and forced many to take mental health breaks. She is not a players coach. This is a division 1 program not a division 2 or 3 program . She is a broken human being

Kathy Taylor was one of the best coaches I have ever had. Her experience, grit, and dedication to our team was unstoppable. She not only pushed me and my peers to be better athletes, but thought us countless transferable skills I use everyday in my career. She cares about lacrosse, her team, and pushing you to be the best you can be. Coach Taylor is an advocate for strong women athletes and and I feel honored to have been coached by her.

I’ve had the privilege of being coached by Kathy Taylor and it has been nothing but memorable, fun and motivating. She has inspired young women to become the best version of themselves on and off the field. I have the utmost respect for her honesty and tough love approach to coaching. Our team culture was the best it has ever been under the leadership of coach taylor. She wants the best for her athletes.

Although an old school mentality, Kathy Taylor helped shape me into a hard working, dedicated person who pushes through hardships and obstacles. Mental toughness is important, but she never failed to want the best for us on and off the field.

My experience with Kathy Taylor as a coach was nothing but the best. She shaped me into what I am today and made me strong and determined in every aspect of life. I was so incredibly lucky to play lacrosse for such an amazing woman. She cares for her team while also understanding what we can handle and when to push us to achieve greatness. The skills I learned from her on the lacrosse field carry into my everyday life and now into coaching lacrosse myself.

I had the chance to play for Coach Taylor at Le Moyne College and had an incredible experience. She helped guide our team to a national championship in 2018. She is not only a coach but a mentor to us off of the field. I had a terrific four years and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Absolutely awful on every level. Dangerous and sick person. She should not be allowed to coach.

She made me less confident and depressed until the day lacrosse ended. I came to Colgate loving lacrosse more than anything, and by the end I only was staying because I loved my teammates.

Anyone that is committed to colgate to play under Kathy taylor should seriously reconsider coming to this institution and decommit. Your mental health and well-being should be your utmost priority and coming to colgate will destroy you. You’ve been warned.

She dismisses athletes mental health and invalidates them while they take mental health breaks. She pressures them back and gaslights them into coming back way too soon. She also directly expresses to them and other members of the coaching staff that they aren’t exhibiting signs of depression or symptoms that would qualify them for mental health breaks because they can “go to class”. She is a danger to the young women that she coaches.

Worst college lacrosse experience ever. All because of Kathy Taylor.

Kathy Taylor is a horrible human being and an even worst coach. Praying for every athlete who decides to play for her. 0 respect for her players, negative respect for mental health, fat shames girls, homophobic, the list goes on. Truly the worst all around.

She fat shames her players and manipulates them. She is a horrible person. She lies and will play head games with you to break you so she can control you. She doesn’t believe in injuries and will tell you that you’re just too weak mentally and that you’re faking everything. Run.

She’s homophobic and doesn’t believe in mental health. She will gaslight you and play head games. She is a pathological liar and has no regard for the well being of her athletes. She will catfish you during the recruiting process and will flip a switch the second you’re on campus. She 100% is a narcissist and has some sort of personality disorder. She is bipolar and unstable.

Does not value mental health of athletes. Will run athletes into the ground.
