When you think about a good coach, they are motivating, inspiring, and push you to be the best version of yourself on and off the field. They build team morale, know when to be tough you, and also when to pick you up. When you look back on your time with them, you can reflect on how much they helped you grow. In every aspect you would describe a “good coach,” she was the opposite. She sees her athletes as a means for her to achieve success and nothing more (yet has not made it past the conference tournament since taking over as head coach at Flagler). As a young coach, she is thirsty for control. She would force athletes to visit her office and sign a check in sheet once a day to attempt to build relationships, and force them to turn in their phones on every away trip. She enforced often a 9pm curfew where all cell phones would be required to be placed in her room, and not given back until the next morning on the bus ride to the game. If we played poorly she would often hold them longer out of frustration. One game that resulted in a loss she decided to use the dugout bathroom where she (very loudly with the team in the dugout) vomited while we were told by coaching staff “we played so poorly we were making her physically ill” If we did not perform well, she would decrease our meal budgets to $5 per person, sometimes even deciding to take us to gas stations when there were multiple other options nearby. There was even an instance when players were forced to pay for their own meal as she decided to not get off the bus prior to conference play. She simply does not value players growth outside of the sport itself. Starters could be borderline academically ineligible, blatantly disrespectful to other players (amongst other extra curricular activities that would often result in punishment) and not miss a minute of game time. While those who reserved bench time and game suspensions often came from simply respectfully disagreeing with her unrealistic expectations. She is a young, arrogant, unqualified coach and well too many players have quit the program, losing their love for the game due to her neglect.

At first I thought the coach was going to be great. The season continued and things got worse by the day. The coach got her feelings hurt when I tried to express how I felt ab her mechanisms and coaching style. There’s no chemistry between the players. Everyone talks about everyone. There’s nothing great about the program, but being a player I couldn’t project or say that. I had to act like everything was great when things never were.

Very insecure and unstable. Looks for reassurance from her players who are simultaneously looking for guidance and help from her, so it doesn’t work. She’s a decent person outside of softball, but she’s too old school and unconfident in herself to actually have a good season.
