Horrible the only reason he isn’t the worst coach I’ve ever had is because he is not abusive. Of course to be abusive would require some kind of effort and interest in coaching, which he is not capable of.

A lot can be said about Doug, in general he’s a good person who cares about your well being. You can talk to him if you are having trouble with someone and he will listen but don’t expect him to actively do anything. That being said he’s not a great coach, sets often lack direction and he can not run a taper at all. I’m not sure he knows much about swimming or is willing to put in any effort so if you are looking for a highly technical coach look elsewhere. In my 4 years at case I never once received stroke advice from him. He is not the worst coach I have ever had because he is not emotionally abusive and generally cares about athletes metal health. However he is prone to picking favorites so treatment is wildly different between athletes. Before going to swim for him think long and hard about your personal expectations and goals.

A lot can be said about Doug, in general he’s a good person who cares about your well being. Doug’s a nice guy, just doesn’t care. He got lucky with recruiting the past couple of years, however, the team will not continue to progress with him. He creates a very toxic team environment when it comes to roster selections and expects his captions or single, inexperienced assistant coach to do everything. He plays obvious favorites, lets his personal life get in the way, and bullies his assistant coach. This team has an extreme amount of potential, however, is greatly limited due to Doug’s incompetent coaching and leadership. We desperately need a new coach.

Doug is a very good guy and very accessible. He cares about his athletes and wants to see the team succeed. Unfortunately, I do not think he is the most knowledgeable coach ever. He is usually open to suggestions, especially from people on the team he likes, but the practices are average and will require some additional work if you want to continue to improve. At the end of the day, it is Division III Swimming, so I don’t expect to have Bob Bowman coaching me, but Doug could be better. However, much of the team enjoys using Doug’s mediocre coaching as a scapegoat for their poor performance despite putting in minimal effort, so don’t be fully swayed by more cutting reviews.

Doug is a very good guy and very accessible. He cares about his athletes and wants to see the team succeed. Unfortunately, I do not think he is the most knowledgeable coach ever.
