Who Is E.J. Cumbo? Who Is E.J. Cumbo?

E.J. Cumbo is a senior outfielder on the University of Tampa baseball team. Cumbo leads the number-one-ranked Spartans in hits (73), RBI (54), batting average (.390), and slugging percentage (.615)

Earlier this month, Cumbo broke the NCAA Division II all-time hits record, passing the previous record of 366.

E.J. Cumbo is a redshirt senior from East Meadow, New York. He spent his first two years of college baseball playing at the New York Institute of Technology. As a freshman, Cumbo was the only player in the conference to finish the season with a batting average above .400. He finished off his first season as a third-team All-American, the 2019 East Coast Conference Player of the Year, and led the Bears to the NCAA Regional championship. After the 2020 COVID-19 year, Cumbo redshirted and transferred to Tampa.

He has also been racking up awards since stepping on campus in Tampa, Florida. Cumbo is a 4x First-Team All-SSC, the 2023 and 2024 Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year, and was named an ABCA/Rawlings First-Team All-American. 

The Tampa Spartans are the number-one seed in the NCAA Division II South Region tournament. The team will be looking for revenge, after losing in the South Regional after playing five games last year.
