College football thrives on rivalries. With so much history between teams, some games get more and more exciting as the years go on. Fans, alumni, and students all become part of the team because of these heated matchups. Here are the top five college football rivalries today:
5. USC vs. Notre Dame
The University of Southern California and Notre Dame have had a historical rivalry dating back to 1926. Annually playing the Saturday following Thanksgiving, the winner takes home the trophy known as the Jeweled Shillelagh. As the story goes, the rivalry started with a conversation between the wives of Notre Dame head coach Knute Rockne, and USC athletic director Gwynn Wilson. This is one of the most exciting games in college football history that Notre Dame has recently dominated in it.

4. Alabama vs. Auburn
Known as the Iron Bowl, Alabama vs. Auburn is one of the most intense college rivalries in the country. Having first played in 1893, the name was given due to Birmingham's history in the steel industry. The rivalry of the two has lasted ever since and brought some of the greatest games college football has seen.
3. Florida vs. Georgia
Florida and Georgia have played every season since 1926 (with the exception of World War II). The rivalry is played in Jacksonville, Florida, where it is known to be the largest outdoor cocktail party in the United States, bringing in crowds from all over. The Southeastern Conference matchup is never one to disappoint, and has recently been dominated by Georgia over the past few seasons.

2. Michigan vs. Ohio State
Referred to as “The Game,” Michigan vs. Ohio State is easily one of the most exciting matchups each season. The two Big Ten teams have been facing off each season since 1922, in what ESPN ranked as the greatest North American sports rivalry ever in the early 2000's. Both with diehard fans and electric student sections, The Game is one that people look forward to every season.

1. Army vs. Navy
The Army-Navy Game is legendary in this country. The pride on both sides of the football beats out any current game in the country, as men and women who served or are currently serving root for their branch. Known to be one of the most traditional rivalries in college football, the game marks the end of the college football regular season annually and has overall been dominated by Navy.
