Some college sports are considered more individualistic than others (see: swimming and track), but all college sports take place in a team setting. Take advantage of this! As a college athlete, you have a built-in squad from the moment you set foot on campus.

My college swim team's GroupMe name was “My People.” I could rely on my teammates for anything and they were always there for me. If you are on a college team, you are with your teammates for many hours a week. You train with them, live with them, study with them and hang out with them. They'll be “your people” if you open up to them and take time to really bond. It's an investment for sure, but it's worth it. Be sure to make time for the teammates in your life–in sports and the real world, you don't have to do this alone.
