Division I Men’s Tennis: 5 Players to Watch This Postseason

We've hit the juncture of the collegiate men's season where the conference tournament is right around the corner. With that in mind, a few men's tennis players have stood out in their respective conferences throughout the entire season and are therefore a threat in not only their conference tournament but the Championships as well.

ACC:

1. Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc

The best player in the ACC this season has been Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc of the Florida State Seminoles. Not only is he the highest-ranked player in the conference, but he has arguably the best record and strength of record compared to his ACC counterparts. He is 17-2 in the season alone, with all matches played at the #1 spot. His only losses came against highly ranked ACC foes #11 Andres Martin of Georgia Tech and #29 Filippo Moroni of Wake Forest. On the flip side, Cornut-Chauvinc has defeated three top-ten players during his 15-match winning streak.

Antoine's last match of the regular season is against the Miami Hurricanes, and it should be a comprehensive win as their highest-ranked singles player is barely in the top #100.

Big Ten:

2. JJ Tracy

#16 JJ Tracy of the Ohio State Buckeyes may be the most dangerous player in the Big Ten. At 28-3 on the season JJ has become a model of consistency. His only losses on the season were against #2 of Texas, #17 Gavin Young of Michigan, and #35 Gilles-Arnaud Bailly of Texas.

Tracy has had a great career, winning Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2021 and was an ITA Singles All-American in 2022, while also winning Player of the Week on numerous occasions. The Big Ten tournament isn't for another two weeks so Tracy has time to hit the 30-win mark before the postseason even starts.

Big-12:

The Big 12 is jam-packed with talent in the upper echelons of men's tennis. In fact, 5 out of the current top 10 players in the country hail from the Big 12.

3. Micah Braswell

Making a single choice here is difficult but the man to feature is #2 Micah Braswell of the Texas Longhorns. Braswell is a ridiculous 32-2 on the season and is the only player with a better record than Tracy. His only losses were to #64 Ryan Colby in late September and #7 Chris Rodesch in early October. With that in mind, Micah hasn't lost in over six months and is on a 29-match winning streak.

With the help of teammate and #1 in the country Elliot Spizzirri, the Longhorns are on a nine-match winning streak, and their senior day against Baylor on April 13th will allow the opportunity for a double-digit streak before the conference tournament.

Pac-12:

4. Murphy Cassone

#6 Murphy Cassone is the man to beat from the Pac-12. His 16-8 record is misleading, as 7 of his 8 losses are players in the top 26, and 4 of his 8 losses are against the top 10. With a few more regular season matchups and the last Pac-12 tournament being two weeks away, Cassone has time to make his record more reminiscent of his talent level before the NCAAs.

SEC:

5. Johannus Monday

Last but not least is the Southeastern Conference, and we feel the same way about #4 Johannus Monday of the Tennessee Volunteers. Monday is an impressive 23-2 on the season with the only two losses coming against top-10 opposition. Monday will be taking his 11-match winning streak into Lexington this weekend for a matchup with the #5 Kentucky Wildcats. This will be the last matchup of the regular season before the SEC tournament starts next Friday, April 19th.
