Every athlete, no matter the level, has ups, downs, off days, and everything in between. Sometimes a season filled with poor performances is exactly what you need to ignite a new vigor.
Positive Perspective
Having a positive perspective is the most important aspect of dealing with these slumps as it allows athletes to push through and get to the light at the end of the tunnel.

Support System
Another aspect of dealing with underperformance is having a support system. This can be a group of friends within your sport, outside of sports, or even your parents. Lacking a social group to turn to will make any tough situation even more difficult to deal with. This is why it is of the utmost of importance to surround yourself with positive people that are there for you during your ups and downs in athletics.
Address your poor performances
Once you have accepted and recovered from your poor performance(s), you can look back on and learn from them. By addressing what went wrong and why, you can make a plan to avoid that mistake in the future. Maybe it's a bad mindset, under-training, a disagreement with a teammate, or just a bad night's sleep. Addressing the problem will help you overcome it in future competitions.
