Daily Grind: The Athlete Lifestyle at an HBCU Daily Grind: The Athlete Lifestyle at an HBCU

Beadles is a soccer player who attends Alabama A&M. She is currently a senior who has been a team captain since sophomore year and is a leader on the team that was crowned the co-champions of the Southwestern Athletic Conference last . For Alabama A&M, this was the first since 2012 that they had taken the first place title. We sat down with her to talk about it has been like to be a part of a D1 Historically Black College University (). This is what her fall schedule usually looks like.

7:00 am Wake up 

Tehya likes to wake up early to get more done throughout the day. In the mornings, the first thing she does is listen to or a motivational message. Her coach pushes the team to learn how to be better versions of themselves.

8:00 am-9:00 am Eat

To Tehya, breakfast is a very important meal because she knows that during practice, she runs and burns calories. To fuel her body, she takes the necessary steps to get the proper

9:00 am-12:00 am Classes 

After breakfast, she goes to her classes for the day. Some are online, and some are in person. When she has free time, she gets ready to attend practice.

3:30 pm- 5:30pm Practice 

Tehya usually shows up 15-30 mins early for practice to get her “boots on” and legs warm. The Bulldogs' practices consist of what they need to work on for the upcoming games. Her coach is big on energy, so their team dynamic consists of listening to music. They even bring out a speaker to have a good time and get hyped before training.

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Team dinners

After practice, her teammates meet up at the cafeteria and eat dinner with one another. One of Tehya's favorite things to do is spend time with her friends and teammates. They enjoy each other's company and cherish these moments. 

8:00 pm – 10:30 pm Wind Down 

Following dinner, she spends this time doing whatever she needs to before resting for the day. She often goes to her friend's apartments and has a movie night, works on homework, or does some self-care and gets ready to sleep and repeat.
