Sophomore Madisyn Howard is a D1 field hockey player at Towson University. Madisyn plays defense and made 15 starts in 18 appearances in the 2022 season, proving to be a pivotal member of the team. Now that it's spring and there are no competitive games until fall, it can be hard to find the motivation to continue with your offseason daily grind. But here, Madisyn talks us through her busy day-to-day schedule as a college athlete during the field hockey off-season and how she stays motivated during the spring.
7:00 am
Madisyn wakes up at this time to get prepared for her busy day which includes lifting, hockey practice, lots of classes, and an extra-curricular program.

8:00-9:00 am
During this time Madisyn has a team lift session. This will include some sport specific exercises, mobility work, and lifts to get stronger with the strength and conditioning coach on campus at Towson University.
9:00-11:15am
Since there aren't any games this time of the year, the most exciting part of the day for Madisyn is practice. Madisyn and her teammates work on their skills and technical work, tactical insights, fitness, and scrimmage experience to get better individually and as a team before the season starts next Fall!
12:30-1:45 pm
The first class of the day for Madisyn is ECON. This happens on campus after practice, showing that academics are just as important as being an athlete too!

2:00-3:00 pm
Madisyn goes home for lunch during this period to refuel and recover after a tough day of lifting and practicing. It's essential to be able to eat after practice to consume the right nutrients to be able to go again the next day–Madisyn does this really well!
3:30-4:45
The second class of the day that Madisyn attends is Honors Class, which shows how much hard work she puts into her studies and academics. Following Madisyn's daily schedule just shows how well she is able to balance being a student and an athlete!
5:00-6:15pm
Madisyn's third and final class of the day is Finance. Numbers aren't for everyone, but Madisyn is a dedicated student and takes part in this class during the evening hours.

7:00-8:00pm
Madisyn participates in the Tiger Leadership Enhancement and Development (L.E.a.D.) program during this time. The Tiger L.E.a.D program is designed to identify student-athletes early in their careers who have shown high levels of talent both in the classroom and in competition and build their leadership capacity. In this program, Madisyn receives mentoring to make her competitive for significant national, NCAA, and conference awards and scholarships, as well as admission into graduate school and future employment. This just signifies how much work Madisyn puts into her self-development and looks to improve her skills everyday.
8:00 pm Onwards
After a busy day, Madisyn gets time to relax and unwind, eat dinner, catch up on any homework that's due and rest before another busy day.
