Deciding on your school for the next four or so years is a huge decision. Luckily, men's basketball coach , who has been coaching the Eagles since 2009, isn't afraid of commitment and can help recruits like you make the best choice. Here are his best tips to help you throughout your process.

What is the most important quality you look for in a recruit? 

The recruit needs to be extraordinary in his effort.

What is the best way for a recruit to get on your radar?

Don't be vanilla. There are thousands of recruits. The ones that stick out are the recruits that play within their abilities, but, with an effort that is uncommon to the others that they are playing with or against.

When should an athlete contact you, what is the best way? (age, grade, time of year, email, phone, or other)

During the school year after their is completed. is the best way.

What are your expectations for incoming players in the classroom, in the weight room, and on the court?

The recruit needs to be ready for the unknown.  Every day in college will be more demanding than their toughest day of high school. This includes , sport competition, and developing a social life with people who are not from your hometown.

What are the do's and don'ts of being recruited?

Treat all interests and offers as an open door that you need to look into. Don't lead a coach on that you want to be recruited. If it is not for you, be honest. If you still want to be recruited by the school, but, the school is not your #1, let the coach know where you stand.

What is the best advice you can offer a recruit?

Never make a major life decision based on pressure.

What really jumps out to you when reviewing a recruit's highlight tape? 

Speed, ability to shoot, pass, dribble both hands, keep an offensive player in front.

What are the main do's and don'ts for a recruit's highlight tape?

Show your strengths, don't show free throws, don't show something you did once.

When do you recommend recruits put together and share their highlight reels?

Update the highlight tapes quarterly starting in their junior season.

What advice do you have for recruits who get turned down by their dream schools? 

Know your level and be realistic. Who you are getting recruited by now is your level. If you don't like your options, go prep school or JUCO and redshirt. One other option is to go for a school that you want to be recruited by showing them your skill and desire to go to school there.

How big a factor is social media when recruiting players? What advice do you have for athletes regarding social media?

is for advertising good things and/or showing how mature you are when handling adverse situations. Nothing says “don't recruit me” more than posting negative content.
